Celebrity gossip hound Perez Hilton reports that Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger of Flight 1549 fame, who managed to safely land his plane on the Hudson River, is now part of U.S. Airways Flight Operations Management Team. Now there’s a guy who deserves a promotion. In addition to inking two publishing deals for $3,000,000, [...]

I’m not a regular reader of New York Magazine. As a weekly journal of trends and fashion, or style over substance, I consider it a waste of time to chase after such trifling matters as who wears which trendy shoes or visits slick clubs or hikes in the mountains of Aspen. This low level of [...]

I just received word that the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) will be hosting Senator Joseph Lieberman on October 1, for a discussion of “Next Steps on Iran” in the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center, Room 203/202. I highly encourage those who can obtain a spot to attend. The Senator will be accompanied in this discussion by Danielle [...]

The following is my article for the Queens Village Eagle Oct. 2009:
A broad cross-section of Americans, young and old, black and white, mostly apolitical folks, flooded the Capitol on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 for the Million Taxpayer March on Washington. Over one million Americans traveled by train and plane and many took one-day bus trips [...]
Everyone wants nukes

While the United States is dismantling its missile defense shield in Europe, and winding down our nation’s nuclear arsenal, Iran says it has a second reactor in the works today, and now Brazil wants nukes. Frankly, how naive can President Obama be; he looks like a child on the national stage with how he’s getting [...]

Manuel Zelaya, the former president of Honduras who was removed by the nation’s Supreme Court to thwart his Chavez-like attempt to extend his presidency beyond constitutional limits, tells the Miami Herald from the bowels of the Brazilian embassy in Tegucigalpa that “Israeli mercenaries” are “torturing him” with high frequency radiation.
The Herald also reports that Zelaya [...]

Democracy Project President Herbert London wrote the following piece in memory of his friend and mentor, Irving Kristol, who passed away September 18 at the age of 89.
As the godfather of the neoconservatives, Irving Kristol had many children: those he inspired and the many who viewed him as a model. I was one of those [...]
Transformational SecDef

According to the October 2009 Wired Magazine, Robert Gates is the most “radical secdef in generations, upending the politics of national security, scrapping the traditional ways gear gets to troops, and defying the military-industrial complex.” The article isn’t posted yet, but once it is, I’ll post it. There’s some interesting stuff in there, like the [...]

Here is the monthly Washingtoons column dated 15 September 15, 2009
by Lieutenant Colonel Allen B West (US Army, Retired)
“…Men and Women of courage, competence, commitment, conviction, and character take the reins of leadership. After seeing the 2 Million in Washington DC on 9-12 that is exactly what shall happen in 2010.”

Let’s sell the University of Texas a virtual Brooklyn Bridge, too
Posted on September 15, 2009 - Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
The University of Texas just spent $35,000 buying virtual real estate in Second Life — with no specific plans as to how to utilize it for educational purposes.
I clearly don’t have what it takes to be an academic administrator: I’d have wasted the money on books and bunsen burners.
