A Few Funny Thoughts

While I watch election results this evening, I wanted to pass along some funny developments:

* Electronic innovator Philips has developed a bracelet for stock traders called “The Rationalizer.”  The bracelet measures something called a galvanic skin response, which measures various stimuli like anger or elation.  If the bracelet indicates that you are emotionally aroused, “The Rationalizer” will tell you it might be time to “take a break and cool down,” as The Economist states.

* Charlemagne of The Economist describes the differences between the Anglo-Saxon and European inheritance systems, and how it illustrates the difference between Continental Europe and Britain and the United States.  On the Continent, it’s illegal to disinherit your children or even disfuse their wealth like Warren Buffett and Bill Gates plan on doing by giving most of their fortune to charity.  Rather, you must divide half your estate between your surviving children.

* Watching the tele, GOP National Chairman Michael Steele says that the sweep of all races in Virginia by the GOP is not a referendum on President Obama.  Then, what is it?  This is an indication that Steele and the national party is not responsible for this coming sea change, but rather the grassroots, tea-party activists, who are tired of the tax and spend policies of the President.

* A restaurant in Moscow dared to call itself the “Anti-Soviet” and received fits of outrage by former Gulag guards, secret policeman, and other Communist apparatchiks.  During the Putin era, calling out the Soviet era has become dangerous, as Putin was none other than a KGB leader.
